Both teams won over the weekend and were full of confidence ahead of this midweek Premier League fixture. Wolves fought for three points in the derby against Aston Villa with goals from João Gomes and Rodrigo Gomes in the second half to secure the win. Whilst Liverpool scored five against West Ham at Anfield.

Another thriller at Molineux for Rob Edwards’ side as they secured back to back Premier League wins over Aston Villa last Friday and then stunned defending champions Liverpool midweek.
It was an uneventful first half of the match. Liverpool started the game well and had the first effort. Cody Gakpo won possession high up the pitch, who fired his effort towards goal but went straight to goalkeeper, José Sá.
Liverpool dominated early on, but Wolves slowly grew into the game. Liverpool did limit the hosts to no shots in the first half of the match.
Before the half time whistle, Liverpool created attacking opportunities. Dominik Szoboszlai had an effort from distance but was comfortably gathered by José Sá. Moments later, Cody Gakpo had a dangerous opportunity in the penalty area but was blocked by Jackson Tchatchoua.
Half Time: Wolves 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool came out on the front foot, and nearly took the lead, the effort hit the crossbar and Wolves managed to cleared their lines.
With ten minutes remaining, two of Rob Edwards’ substitions linked up, Tolu Arokodare held the ball up well and slotted a pass to Rodrigo Gomes who was through on goal and struck the ball past Alisson Becker in the visitors net. Wolves supporters were stunned and the Molineux erupted as the hosts broke the deadlock and took the lead.
Moments later Liverpool equalised with a Mohamed Salah goal. He capitalised on a loose ball in the midfield area and struck a powerful effort past the Wolves goalkeeper to level the game.
As the clock ticked down and the game enters the final moments, tensio and tensions rose around Molineux. Yerson Mosquera was through on goal, but he was denied, while Virgil Van Dijk saw his headed effort land in José Sá’s gloves.
In the final minutes of the match, Wolves’ number seven André struck the ball from range and with the help of a deflection the ball bounced into the back of the net and secured the victory for Wolves.
Rob Edwards’ side remain bottom of the league but are only 11 points from safety. Whilst Liverpool fail to make it into the top four. Both sides play again on Friday night at Molineux for the FA cup competition, can Wolves defeat Liverpool again in just a few days.
