The Baggies haven’t met expectations this season, losing six and drawing three out of fifteen games so far, but after Saturday’s game, they picked up their first win in four games.
On Saturday 8th November, West Brom played Oxford United, this was an important match for the Baggies for two reasons, they had no more than a point from their last four games, and this was also selected as West Brom’s remembrance match.
With three changes in their starting lineup from the loss against Charlton Athletic meant that West Brom wanted to change their ways.

The first half remained nil-nil, despite great efforts from both teams. West Brom had an amazing start, with fifteen shots in the first half alone, and some super saves from the keeper to really keep them in the game and stop Oxford from taking the lead.
At half-time West Brom continued their Remembrance match with two special presentations. Two caps were bought out and handed over to ex-players, Harold White and Harold Bache.
Into the second half with no half-time changes for the Baggies as they came out roaring to get a win.
With another eleven chances, a goal conceded and an own goal from Oxford, West Brom finally got over their ‘no win streak’. The winning goal came from substitute Aune Heggebo, who came on in the sixty-second minute.
Heggebo managed to gain his second goal of the season within eight minutes of being on the pitch.
The Baggies fought hard to secure the win, even with seven minutes of extra time, making a total of five changes to really help them.
West Brom manager, Ryan Mason gave his thoughts after the match.
“I think it was important to get three points today; I thought the performance deserved it. Crazy that it was a 2-1 game at the end. I thought the first half we were excellent in terms of chance creation, momentum and penalty box entries.”
“We had fifteen shots at goal, so it’s there, we just need to be a bit more clinical in those moments.”
“I think the thing that pleased me the most was probably the personality we showed after going 1-0 down, because I think it’s very easy to feel sorry for yourself, but we didn’t.”
They now sit in fourteenth place ahead of the break, and are set to play top of the league, Coventry City, on Saturday 22nd November.
